Terms of Use and License
These terms are an agreement between you and Unified Software Solutions LLC (“we”, “us”) for the Manutius application for macOS (“Manutius” or “the app”) and the manutius.app website. By downloading, installing or using Manutius you agree to them. If you don’t agree, don’t use the app.
1. License
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use Manutius on up to three (3) Macs that you own or control, for the term described in section 3. You may not sell, rent, sublicense, share your license key, reverse-engineer the app except where the law allows it, or remove any notices from it.
2. Trial
Manutius may be used free of charge for 14 days from first launch, with all features. After the trial the app becomes read-only: you can still open your books and copy your text out, but you cannot edit or export until a license is activated. Your book files always remain yours and readable.
3. Purchases, subscriptions and renewals
- Lifetime license: a one-time payment. It never expires and includes updates to the app for as long as we publish them.
- Monthly and yearly subscriptions: billed in advance and renewed automatically at the end of each period until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from the receipt email or by writing to us; the app keeps working until the end of the period you paid for, then becomes read-only.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. Prices are in US dollars; taxes may be added at checkout where required.
- If a subscription payment fails, we allow a short grace period before the app becomes read-only.
4. Refunds
If Manutius isn’t right for you, email hello@manutius.app within 14 days of a purchase or first subscription payment and we will refund it. A refund revokes the license key. Renewal payments are not refundable once the new period has started, but you can cancel so no further renewals occur.
5. Your content
Everything you write in Manutius is yours. The app stores your books as files on your Mac and does not upload them to us. Optional features that involve third parties (see section 7) send only what you choose to send, and only when you use them.
6. Updates and availability
Manutius checks for updates and may download and install them. Licensed features occasionally verify the license with our server; the app tolerates being offline for extended periods. We may change or discontinue features, and we may retire the license server with reasonable notice, in which case we will provide a way for lifetime licenses to keep working.
7. Third-party services
Some features rely on services we don’t operate: Stripe (payments), Apple (notarization and updates delivery via GitHub), Hugging Face (one-time download of the voice model for Listen), and Anthropic’s Claude Code if you choose to use the Claude features with your own account. Their terms apply to those services. Output produced by AI features is your responsibility to review.
8. No warranty
Manutius is provided “as is”. We do our best to make it reliable, and we recommend keeping backups (the app makes them automatically), but we don’t promise it will be free of errors or fit for a particular purpose. Always proof a printed copy before publishing.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising from Manutius or these terms is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, including lost data or lost profits.
10. Termination
We may terminate your license if you materially breach these terms (for example by distributing license keys). You may stop using Manutius at any time. Sections 5, 8 and 9 survive termination.
11. Changes and contact
We may update these terms; the effective date above will change and material changes will be noted in the app or on this page. Questions: hello@manutius.app.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of [STATE], United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
